Step Into Newsletter – June 13, 2025
WWDC was awesome for visionOS.
There is a lot of discussion around the new design changes on iOS and macOS. While Apple and the community wrestle with that, I’m going to stay focused on visionOS.
We got a ton of changes this year. Some quality of life improvements and some major new features. Widgets and pinned windows will change how everyone uses Apple Vision Pro. RealityKit has new components for attachments, gestures, and presentations. We can use SwiftUI animations on RealityKit entities. I wrote a sort post with my initial reactions and a longer one covering some of my favorite new features.
WWDC 2025 – Excited for visionOS 26 – My favorites from the Keynote.
WWDC 2025 – What’s new for visionOS Developers – SwiftUI and RealityKit work together better than ever. We also awarded the first ever “WWDC extension of the year”!
If you published a WWDC recap or article, please let me know so I can share and add it to the next newsletter.
From the Labs
Most of my time has been spent watching sessions and taking notes. I still have a lot of sessions to get through before I start planning updates to Example Code on Step Into Vision. I did have time for a few labs though.
Lab 059 – Extruding a Mesh from a Shape – I was so excited to see this added at WWDC 2024. Too bad it took me a year to try it!
Lab 060 – First look at Manipulation Component – A simple but powerful component to interact with entities in RealityKit. I explored a few simple ways to use this and filed some feedback about clamping values (FB18013820).
Lab 061 – First look at SwiftUI animations in RealityKit – Using the new content.animate method to apply a SwiftUI animation to a RealityKit entity.
Community
Monday evening, over 20 visionOS developers gather to hangout. We discussed the Keynote and the Platforms State of the Union. We talked about what we were most excited about. A lot of doors were opened with visionOS 26.
Don’t worry if you missed it! We do a weekly hangout every Friday at 2 PM (eastern US). If you are reading this, then you are welcome to join us!

Call for resources: Step Into Vision has a Resources section where I try to gather useful links for visionOS developers. I try to post at least one new item each week. I’ve worked through my backlog of links. If you have something you want to see on Step Into Vision, please let me know. You can reply to this email or leave a comment on the site. You can also send me a message directly.
I hope you had a great WWDC! Let’s learn everything we can and get back to work building the future of Spatial Computing.
Joseph
