Shared Visions: January Recap
Progress on Story & UX, building the App and Video Teams.
We’ve had number of workshops and community meetings over the last month. Mel lead a discussion and discovery of Story Devices. Many people contributed ideas and we’ve done a bit of dot voting. We have a number of ideas to explore:
- Vision and Refraction: This concept uses vision-related elements like light, transparency, fog, and refraction as metaphors. The narrative could start with the “fog” of the future of spatial computing, which the community and Vision Pro help to clear. Refraction could represent the different aspects or skill sets (like UX versus dev versus design) that contribute to the project.
- Companion/Transition Object: This involves a 3D model, or “companion,” that stays with the user in the space. It could serve as a “projector,” morph, or move to draw the user’s attention to dozens of video clips.
Other concepts to explore: Lenses & loupes, glass, metaballs, circles, spheres, disclosing or unveiling the story. We handed some of the concepts off to the UX and App teams to test feasibility.
We also ran a Skills Questionnaire to help build the App and Video teams. This was open for a few weeks and about 1/3 of the Shared Visions Community took the time to complete it. Our team leads are using this information to build teams and assign work. If you need something to do, we plenty of work! Just reach out one of our team leads in the Discord server.
Mike ran a workshop on App Development and talked us through some of the technical challenges of the project. Paolo lead a discussion on video formats supported across Apple Vision Pro. We want to use as many of these as possible in the project. Oliver ran a UX workshop where we mocked up app structure and navigation. Several of us have been working on concepts to share at the next meeting.
If you didn’t get a chance to attend these, you can watch the recordings on the Shared Visions YouTube channel.
Some common themes are emerging from these discussions. Many of the story devices and concepts point to a sense of revealing. Terms like “through the lens”, “shine a light on”, “look to the future” all point to a sense that this story will help us uncover something. Circles, spheres, orbits, and loops have also come up frequently. There are some interesting ideas for combining these shapes with lenses, lights, etc.
What’s Next?
- UX Workshop 03 is scheduled for Feb 10th
- Catch up on the recent workshops
- Revisiting Story: testing the feasibility of the Story Devices, drafting interview questions
- Community Meeting: we’d like to host a meeting with all team leads and as many community members as possible.
Please check keep active in the Shared Visions Discord for announcements. We use this to share details about workshops and host discussions for each team.
