Dark Spaces – Devlog 001
A collection of immersive spaces that I’m slowly turning into my next app.
A few months ago I started tinkering with a side project. The idea was to make a few immersive spaces for my own use. Places that I could go to spend time thinking. Over time I started to settle on a dark theme with a handful of materials. I’ve shared a few screenshots and videos but haven’t talked much about it.

I’m going to turn this into the next app I build for release. I plan on using some licensed assets so I won’t be able to publish the entire repo. Instead I’ll post devlog updates here as I make progress or when I have something notable to share.
Today I started a new Xcode project and added a few materials from the previous version. The visual theme is pretty stark. Lots of black, gray, and white. For materials, I’ll start concrete, glass, sky, matte colors. I used one of the dome assets to preview these, but that will fade away at some point. I’ll make heavy use of geometric shapes, but will also use more complex models in some spaces.

What’s next?
- Add a few more materials and settle on a fixed color pallet
- Build 3-5 prototype scenes
- Build a simple way to load multiple scenes and transition between them
I’m not going to say much more about the final product just yet. I’d rather let the ideas surface over the next few months. My goal is to ship something by WWDC, but I may have a TestFlight much sooner than that.
This project will also help me build out a new “devlog” section on the website.
