Step Into Newsletter – May 23, 2025

Counting down the days to WWDC.

Screenshot from Looming Deadlines

We have just over two weeks before WWDC 2025. I’m using the time between now and then to catch on as many labs, examples, and resources as I can.

This Week on Step Into Vision

Looming Deadlines – Devlog 004 – I’m working hard on the visionOS app for Looming Deadlines. Catch the devlog from last week and expect another one soon.

Spatial SwiftUI: Physical Metrics – These little-known features from SwiftUI are really helpful when we need to create content at precise real world sizes.

Spatial SwiftUI: GeometryReader3D – Everyone’s favorite subject: GeometryReader3D! Ok, yeah. I know… But it can be useful. You should at least know it exists.

Lab 053 – Using Attachments in Portals – We can render SwiftUI views as attachments inside portals, but they are not interactive.

Resources & Community

Matt Waller released Very Nice Clocks. I love the attention that went into these and the app itself.

ARKit packages by John Haney – John has created several useful packages to make working with ARKit straightforward and simple.

Vision Panes – An easy-to-use SwiftUI package for splitting windows into multiple panes with pleasant animations out of the box.

Reminder: There are two surveys for visionOS developers and designers. Take some time and complete them by May 25.

John Haney also released his WWDC Wishlist. I’m working on an article about the same topic with what I hope to see at WWDC. It should be out this weekend so keep an eye out.

I hope to see you at Office Hours today. Happy Friday!

Joseph
