Step Into Newsletter – June 12, 2026

A special WWDC 2026 Edition

The latest from Step Into Vision

If you caught the last newsletter then you know we’ve been busy with community work leading up to WWDC. We tried to capture our excitement and hopes in the podcast too.

We started off the week by hosting Step Into Coffee at Philz Coffee in Cupertino. Paolo and Miguel started this tradition in 2024, and this year it became an official Step Into Vision event. This was such a great way to kick off the week. Everyone was so excited for the days ahead. We’ve known many of these people online for years, but getting to meet in person was incredible. We spent the rest of

Sunday meeting with friends and exploring the area. Everyone spent way too much money at the Apple Visitor Center.

Monday morning came and WWDC was just hours away. Of course, Paolo was first in line. In fact, he arrived so early that they had to unlock and and open the parking garage for him.

Many others joined the line shortly afterwards. We spent about two hours in line outside of the Visitor Center, directly across the street from the main entrance. Apple provided coffee and donuts and brought so much good energy. The gates opened and everyone rushed to get just the right seat. We wanted to be close to the main stage, but far enough back to get lots of cover from the California sun.

The view from our seats

Caffe Macs catered breakfast and of course there was more coffee. We had about two hours to eat, drink, and mingle. At around 10 AM, Craig Federighi came out to hype us up and introduce Tim Cook, for what we assume will be his final time taking the stage at a major Apple Event. There was a lot of love in this crowd for Tim.

After the main keynote, Caffe Macs catered lunch and we mingled again. We had a little less than two hours before the State of the Union. Apple called people back to their seats around 12:45 for a special moment. The winners of the Apple Design Awards were called up one by one. The winners of the Swift Student Challenge got a huge ovation. But for us, the special moment was seeing leaders from the community on screen at WWDC.

The State of the Union went into more detail about what we wanted to learn. Reality Composer Pro 3 got a short call out, just long enough to intrigue us. We spent the rest of the day mingling, meeting people, taking photos, and exploring Apple Park. Of course, we spent a ton of time talking with Apple developers and engineers at the Spatial Computing Labs.

We got a glimpse of the new Reality Composer Pro 3, updates on object and accessory tracking, and exciting new dev tools like USDKit and the Spatial Preview framework. We’ll explore these topics and many others all summer on Step Into Vision.

While day one may be the main attraction for most people, for us it was day two was just as great. We hosted the first Step Into Vision Community Meetup. A huge group of developers showed up to try visionOS apps ad games and meet the people in our amazing community. Over a dozen people stepped up to show off their apps. Apple attended too! We had members of Developer Relations, Community, and engineers and designers from the Vision Products Group. A lot of new connections were formed in this room. We predict this will be a new annual tradition for our community.

Apple hosted a number of sessions at the developer center all day Tuesday. They even brought in some local food trucks for lunch. The shaved ice was a perfect treat for a hot afternoon. Another highlight was seeing a movie in the Steve Jobs Theater. Apple presented the latest Star Wars movie. The venue itself was more of an attraction than the actual movie.

Wednesday we started to get back to work. Several members of Shared Visions met our contact at Apple to discuss our progress on the project. We came away energized and excited, with tons of feedback and ideas for how to shape our launch. By late morning Paolo and I had to disappear to work on secret project. We spend the rest of the day at the Apple Developer Center.

Around 6 PM, people starting showing up for the very first Apple Developer Community Meetup. This new format was a special event for those who are building and leading communities and supporting others. By 7:30, our secret was out. Paolo and I were proud to present the Step Into Vision community. We did our best to shine a light on the incredible people that make our work so rewarding. We hope our community can spark ideas and inspire those who come next. We’re beyond excited to see who takes the stage next year and we’re willing to do anything we can to support them.

After the presentations, we had a huge mixer where we mingled and had food and drinks. There were so many hugs, so many new friendships made, and by far the best energy of the week. Caffe Macs served the best food of the week too. Were they holding out on us? The only feedback we have for Apple about this event is that we didn’t want it to end. It could have gone on all night and people would have loved it.

Thursday was much more relaxed. We watched a few sessions and took some notes. We tinkered with the new Reality Composer Pro 3 and starting sending feedback. A few of us installed the visionOS 27 beta. We’re so freaking pumped to explore all the new features and APIs. By the end of the summer, Step Into Vision will be the best place to learn how to work with Reality Composer Pro 3. This new topic may is just what we need to finally get to work on our YouTube channel. We spent the rest of the day with friends, sharing meals, swapping photos, and telling stories. By Thursday evening, when some of us had to leave, the magic started to fade. WWDC was incredible. Meeting with Apple and speaking on stage was huge. But the best part was being together.

No, that is not Jony Ive

Two years ago, Step Into Vision was my personal side project to share code. Today, Step Into Vision is Community. It is People. It is all of us. Every one of us who got to spent the week together. Everyone who ever came to Office Hours. Every person in the our Discord and LinkedIn groups. Every one sharing their work and supporting others. Step Into Vision is yours.

With love and tears,
Joseph
