Starting the Shared Visions Project

Building a community workspace, setting up profiles and roles, and a path forward.

When we announced this project we decided to spend all of September gathering the community. In total, 74 people have signed up to work on the first immersive documentary about the Apple Vision Pro community. The sign up form is closed, for now…

Setup

Everyone who signed up should have received an email last week with instructions for joining our Discord server. If you didn’t receive this email, please contact me directly. You can DM me on LinkedIn or use the contact form to send me a message.

We’re going to use this server as a workspace to coordinate our efforts. We’re still in the process of setting things up. For now, we haven been assigning roles based on the skills selected on the sign up form. We also created a handful of main categories with channels to support various parts of the project.

Once you get access to the server, please make sure to set your Per-server profile name so we know who you are. You can do this in the Discord Profiles section. One that is done, take a little time to introduce yourself in the General channel.

We’ll spend a little more time setting up and making sure everyone has access and roles.

Getting Started

The most important work at this early stage of the project will be writing and story. We need to decide what kind of story we are trying to tell. The work we do in this stage will shape everything else that comes later. That doesn’t mean the rest of us have to wait around for the writing and interviewing team. The Video teams can start working on a basic process to capture, gather, edit, and export video. The App team can start work on a prototype. The Publishing team can set up a website and social media accounts so we can share our process.

There is so much to figure out and I can’t do it by myself. So let’s plan a few Getting Started meetings. I’ll host one in Eastern US time and I’ll ask for volunteers to host sessions in other time zones. Watch the Events section in the Discord and keep an eye on the General channel for announcements.

I’m gratified that so many people signed on to this crazy idea. Let’s build something wonderful together.
