Taking a first look at several visionOS 26 features.
Happy Friday! This is your weekly recap from Step Into Vision. I have a handful of new labs for you. I’ve also started planning a ton of new Example Code posts for this summer.
Example Code
RealityKit Basics: Using ViewAttachmentComponent – visionOS 26 brings us a new way to create attachments right along side our entities.
I’ve been spending a lot time this week learning how some of the new features work in visionOS 26. I’ll document them and add Example Code as I learn more. In the meantime, I made several Labs to take a first look at some of these.
First Look Labs
Lab 062 – First look at Gesture Component – A component that allows us to create unique SwiftUI gestures for RealityKit entities.
Lab 063 – First look at Entity Observation – Explore the second side of two-way communication between SwiftUI and RealityKit.
Lab 064 – First look at Presentation Component – We can show SwiftUI views as popovers relative to the transform of a RealityKit Entity.
Lab 065 – First look at the Manipulable modifier – A SwiftUI modifier that works just like Manipulation Component from RealityKit.

Reminder: you are always invited to join us for Office Hours. Every Friday, 10 to 15 developers get together to share our work, help each solve problems, and geek out about visionOS.

Apple has a great landing page for visionOS 26.
Something new for the game developers out there. I came across the GameSave framework in the docs. It looks like a simple way to save game state in iCloud.
There is also a new framework called Immersive Media Support that we can use to read and write metadata.
Ask WWDC is a neat website where we can ask an LLM about all the latest goodies from WWDC. It provides answers and links to relevant sessions and docs.
